Description

NGC 2736 Herschel's Ray Nebula (also known as the Pencil Nebula) is a small part of the Vela Supernova Remnant, located near the Vela Pulsar in the constellation Vela.
The ahas an apparant magnitude of about 12 and is around 30 x 7 arcminutes in size. It resides about 815 light-years away from the Solar System and is thought to be formed from part of the shock wave of the larger Vela Supernova Remnant.

This was captured over the month of April 2023 in conditions that varied from poor to last Thursday night when the evening started off with the best seeing I have ever experienced in my five years in Hawklesbury Heights in  the Blue Mountains outside Sydney with a HFR around 1.3 that lasted for over an hour. In the end I kept about 50 percent of the 10 hours of exposures to build this version. As always those moments of great seeing are ususlly a precusor to the week of rain that then follows.
